Type 1 | · It controls a cell, which appears to a UE as a separate cell distinct from the donor |
 | · The cell shall have its own physical cell identity and the RN shall transmit its synchronization channels and reference symbols |
 | · In the context of single-cell operation, the UE shall receive scheduling information HARQ feedback directly from the RN and send its control channels to the RN |
 | · It shall appear as an eNB to release 8 UE's (i.e., be backwards compatible) |
 | · To the LTE-Advanced UE's, it should be possible for a Type 1 RN to appear differen than release 8 eNB to allow for further performance enhancement |
Type 2 | · It does not have a separate physical cell identity and thus would not create any new cell |
 | · It is transparent to release 8 UE's; a release 8 UE is not aware of the presence a Type 2 RN |
 | · It can transmit PDSCH |
