Special issue

Intelligent Mobility Management for Future Wireless Mobile Networks

EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking welcomes submissions to the new thematic series on "Intelligent Mobility Management for Future Wireless Mobile Networks".

This special issue focuses on “intelligent mobility management”. The exponential growth of electronic mobile devices has triggered various changes in network usage and infrastructures. This special issue solicits high quality original research papers that cover state-of-the-art research results in the area of intelligent mobility management and related mobile communication areas.

The rapid developments in next generation communication technologies are playing a crucial role in all our aspects of life. The increasing number of mobile devices is causing  great changes to applications, networks and infrastructures while aiming to achieve seamless access and handover for services. The evolution of mobility management technologies, by virtue of intelligent tools, becomes an attractive research topic for future mobile networks. To address the complex challenges for evolving network architectures along with the emerging needs of developers and users, novel research techniques and solutions are needed

With the popularity of new networking technologies such as Software Defined Network (SDN) and cloud computing, current mobility management protocols and approaches may need to be re-evaluated and re-defined  because new various challenges such as location update, signaling overhead, handover latency, security, privacy could be addressed by intelligent features to increase the performance of mobility management approaches and protocols. Within the framework of “Intelligent mobility management”, several paradigm-shifting technical approaches or algorithms can be expected, including but not limited to intelligent applications for mobility management. Special topics of interest that are likely to receive increasing interest include:  context-aware prediction and mobility management, multicast protocols, cluster roaming, energy-efficient mobile handover solutions, and secure mobile protocols all aimed at leveraging  enhancing the mobility performance.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Efficient techniques for mobility management improvement such as DMM, PMIPv6, MIH, MIPv6
  • Cross-layer handover and its security
  • Mobility models and mobility features modeling for real scenarios
  • Energy efficient  mobility in wired and wireless access networks
  • Intelligent mobility management in future network architectures
  • Mobility prediction with big data processing and intelligent cloud computing
  • Mobility security and privacy protection in future mobile networks
  • Energy efficient mobility management architectures
  • Performance analysis of intelligent mobility protocols and architectures
